Ah yes, another perfect day that illustrates just how far off the reservation Boss has gone. First of all, for at least the past two weeks, every shift that he's opened, he's gone home early. EVERY one. And he's not staying late on other nights, either.
So today was cash delivery day. Generally speaking, it takes us somewhere between 30-75 minutes to count cash, depending on how much was ordered. We were expecting an order that would take about 45 minutes. Every Cash Day, we have one person scheduled to be in late specifically to accommodate the cash delivery, because we can never guess when cash will be delivered. And wouldn't you know it, D-ball was scheduled to be that person, and wouldn't you know it, he called in sick. It takes two people to count it, and naturally, a third is needed out front to wait on people. Any time the delivery bag is opened, but the cash is not in the vault (and no, we can't put unstrapped opened bags of cash into the vault), no one is allowed to be in the back room with the cash by themselves. Boss and J were scheduled til 5. Boss & J both commute from around an hour away, so they share rides on a regular basis (thus resulting in J getting tons of overtime simply because Boss doesn't want to drive himself to work). Boss & J also are taking night classes together on Wed nights at the same college. So 4pm rolls around and the cash hasn't been delivered yet. Boss announces that he and J are leaving early. S-hole hits the fucking ROOF. "Dude, cash is gonna be here any minute now, how are Sassy and I supposed to count cash AND wait on people without anyone else here?" Boss is undeterred. He says we can simply watch the security cameras and go out to wait on any customers who come in. And (I swear this is a quote), "It's always dead from 7-8pm, so you'll have plenty of time to get it done." S-hole gave up the protest, and literally SECONDS later, the cash delivery came. And OF COURSE Boss left anyway. They TOTALLY could have gotten cash done and still left at their scheduled time. But no, he wanted to leave early, so that's the way it must be.
Naturally, the instant they left, traffic picked up. When the Boys left at 4pm, we had 3 accounts. It takes at LEAST 20 minutes to open an account, go over the disclosures and complete the paperwork (assuming there are no logistical problems slowing you down). Between 4pm and closing time (8pm), we got *5* accounts. That's in addition to trying to count the cash, wait on all the customers who come in after work, oh--and every time there's a new account, we BOTH have to stop what we're doing so that someone can go to the back and get a new checking account book, because this morning when J & Boss each opened those 3 accounts, they used the last of our supplies and failed to replenish the stock while sitting around for about 6 hours with their thumbs up their asses bitching about how slow it was. Need cash for a customer who wants to cash a $6k check? Wait, everyone stop what you're doing while we go to the back to get it. Hourly item processing due? Wait, everyone stop while we go to the back because we can't be back there alone with over $xx,xxx in cash laying all over the desk.
Each interruption boiled S-hole's blood just a degree higher. That poor guy probably went home and drank a quart of liquor just to get to sleep, because guess what???? We're both scheduled to open tomorrow, too!!!
