Friday, Boss got all excited by the gossip--it's so funny how the gossip line works in our company. Every manager has their cell phone on them at all times, and the number is distributed so they're easy to contact. Since we all know that the email system is monitored (and stored forever), the gossip spreads strictly via cell phone. He got a call about 10am informing him that the manager of  the branch closest to his home just quit. No word about why, though there are a couple of theories.

First of all, there's a new formula coming that will determine the ultimate account goal that each branch is expected to make, and it's causing a lot of stress among the lower-performing branches. We're all grouped by the amount of foot traffic the Major Retailer we're located in gets, and currently, the formula takes a lot of things into consideration--a major one being the individual branch's history. Pretty soon, it's going to be strictly by traffic group. We're lucky, at my branch, we're a leader in our traffic group. We're the ones blowing the curve. The branch across town (we call it SUCK40, though, is gonna be SCREWED. They fucking suck. Now, to be fair, they're in the next lower traffic group, but there's no reason to explain why they can barely make HALF the account goals that we achieve, other than they SUCK. They have crappy attitudes, their customer service sucks, their work ethic sucks, they SUCK. Seriously, we service a TON of their customers because, and they openly tell us--they "HATE dealing with those people over there".  Just shortly after this new account goal formula was announced, one manager in a branch in the northern part of the state quit--just flat out gave up before he even gave it a try. We suspect that SUCK40 will go down in flames, and their management's necks are on the chopping block. S-hole and I have openly pondered the prospect of taking over that branch as a manager, and tossed around ideas of what we'd do to improve their performance. My bottom line: fire them all. I feel bad for a couple of them, because they don't really deserve it, but they've all been tainted by the bad attitude and bad habits. Maybe VP could transfer them to other branches, but ultimately, they cannot keep working there without continuing to infect the atmosphere.

I digress: Greentree's manager quit. Maybe because of the new formula... they don't exceed the rumored new goals. We've heard some criticism about how it's run, and we generally get the feeling they could be doing better. But they've been in that location for about 2 years longer than us, so they have a much stronger account base than we do, and therefore, the branch makes a great deal of profit, whereas we're just starting to turn a profit. This is key, because the branch manager gets a cut of the profit as a bonus. Boss was very tight-lipped about his feelings on the development, though he was clearly intrigued. S-hole wants to nudge him to apply to that position because it's closer and more money.

All I know is it means a lot more jobs are opening up.
